Olivier Krischer is the deputy director of the China Studies Centre, at the University of Sydney. Krischer completed his PhD at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and has been a visiting fellow at the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taipei, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian Centre on China in the World, at ANU, where he was also the curator of the CIW Gallery. He was commissioned into the Royal Australian Engineers, has held a variety of command, staff and instructional appointments, and has served on operations in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Haiti, East Timor and Iraq.
